Children

We have very experienced family law team who can take instructions from children and guardians in relation to Care Proceedings. We also act for and advise parents, grandparents and other relatives in relation to the Orders the court can make.

We deal with all areas of Child Care work including:

  • Emergency Protection Orders
  • Interim Care Orders and Care Orders
  • Supervision Orders
  • Contact with Children in Care
  • Special Guardianship Orders

Our solicitors are members of the Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation Scheme  which is a specialist panel of solicitors accredited by the Law Society to act upon behalf of parents and children in these proceedings.

We cover Family Courts throughout Cumbria including Workington, Carlisle and Barrow.

Legal Aid

We can advise you in relation to eligibility for free legal advice, which is available automatically in most care cases, funded by the Legal Aid Agency and in others subject to financial means and certain eligibility criteria:

Child Arrangement

We can advise couples who are separating, in relation to private law disputes regarding children.

This can be in relation to where the children will live (formally Residence Orders),  Shared Care arrangements or spending time with orders, which covers arrangements for the children to see their parent they do not live with  (formally contact orders)

We have experienced specialist family law solicitors who will guide you through the process and assist you to reach agreement and/or represent you at court.

Children Act Orders

  • Who the children shall live with
  • How they spend time with the other parent
  • Specific issue orders re school, change of surname, medical issues (consent to treatment and vaccinations)
  • Prohibited Steps Orders

We offer specialist advice to Parents, Grandparents who may wish to apply for Children Act orders and we regularly deal with advocacy in our local courts.

We can offer advice including applying to the Court for orders and acting upon your behalf at Court. These orders set out who a child can live with and what contact they have with the other parent.

Law Society Accreditations

Elizabeth Sandelands and Michelle Holliday are both member of the Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation.
